Safety & Health (S&H)

Alba’s 2025 Safety & Health (S&H) performance shows that industry-leading safety is a strategic advantage, not just a compliance requirement. Safety is treated as a core business value that protects people, underpins reliability, and reinforces Alba’s licence to operate.

These results demonstrate that “Safety First, Safety Always” is an operating reality across Alba’s plants and contractor workforce.

  • Performance and Culture at a Glance Alba’s integrated S&H framework combines clear standards, visible leadership, and strong frontline engagement. Weekly safety talks, targeted campaigns, and day-to-day supervision reinforce consistent behaviours on the ground. In 2025, this approach delivered more than 42 million LTI-free work hours and a second consecutive year without a Lost Time Injury, confirming that strong safety performance can be sustained over time. These outcomes reflect both disciplined execution and a culture where employees and contractors feel responsible for one another’s safety.
  • Campaigns that Turn Awareness into Habits Alba used high-impact campaigns to turn safety messages into daily routines. The summer campaign, ‘Summer is Here! Ring the Safety Bell’, focused on hydration, heat stress prevention, and safe work practices in extreme heat. By inviting employees’ children to share safety messages, Alba extended its safety culture into homes and nurtured the next generation of safety advocates. These efforts supported a ninth consecutive SAFE summer with zero heat-related injuries or illnesses.
  • A second campaign, ‘Ring the Safety Bell: Seasons Change, Safety is Constant’ focused on winter readiness and seasonal risk. It highlighted the need to
  • anticipate changing conditions, adjust work practices, and maintain vigilance throughout the year, reinforcing that safety standards are constant even as external conditions shift.

  • Technology and Systems as Safety Enablers In 2025, Alba advanced its S&H performance through targeted technology and system upgrades. The R-Link Proximity Warning System and the Driver Credentials Capability System were deployed to reduce vehicle-related risk by providing real-time hazard alerts and ensuring that only authorised, competent personnel operate critical equipment.
  • Alba also completed the first rollout of a new digital Security Operations Management System, replacing manual paper-based processes for employees, contractors, and visitors. Integrated with SAP and aligned with Industry 4.0 principles, the platform improves traceability, enhances data accuracy, and enables real-time access control and reporting. It has been fully developed and is undergoing field testing to ensure smooth adoption across all user segments. To deepen insight into perceptions of safety, Alba partnered with an external consultant to run a CultureSight survey, achieving strong participation from both Alba employees and contractor workers and generating a robust fact base for future culture initiatives.
  • Building Capability and Raising Standards across the Value Chain Alba continued to invest in skills and leadership to embed safety beyond procedures. By December 2025, 6,196 employees and contractor workers had completed S&H-related training, building the competencies needed to operate safely in a complex industrial environment.
  • The Company launched a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Supervisory Training Programme to strengthen the capabilities of contractors’ supervisors, engineers, and safety officers. By year-end, 265 contractor representatives had completed the programme, reinforcing safety leadership across Alba’s extended workforce. Alba also recognised 12 contracting companies for outstanding safety and well-being performance, using a point-based evaluation system that assessed workforce supply, service delivery, and living conditions outside Alba premises. This approach operationalises the Sustainable & Responsible Sourcing Policy and sets clear expectations for partners.
  • Partnerships and Global Recognition Alba deepened collaboration with national stakeholders to strengthen preparedness and resilience. A large-scale emergency mock drill with the Ministry of Interior and Alba’s Fire and Security teams tested multiple scenarios across critical operational areas, while a Large-Scale Mutual Security Exercise at the Port Facility, under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, assessed readiness to manage security threats.
  • Worker welfare was further reinforced through the Workers’ Accommodation Inspection Programme, which verifies that contractor housing meets the safety and well-being requirements of Alba’s Contractor Social Performance procedures. Knowledgesharing initiatives included familiarisation programmes for national authorities on Alba’s fire and security systems and a Summer Preparation Workshop attended by more than 70 contractor representatives on managing extreme heat.
  • Together, these efforts contributed to a suite of global recognitions, including the British Safety Council 5 Star Certification, the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association ‘Excellence in Safety’ Award, six National Safety Council awards, and the maintenance or renewal of key certifications such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Standards, ISO 18788, ISO 20858 and an independent sustainability rating.
  • Alba’s Safety & Health journey reinforces a clear message: operational success and safety performance are inseparable, and both are central to the Company’s long-term competitiveness
